KINETIC ENERGY PRACTICE PROBLEM

1.     A cheetah can run briefly with a speed of 30 m/s. suppose a cheetah with a mass of 50 kg runs at this speed. What is the cheetah’s kinetic energy?

Answer :

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 50 kg x ( 30 m/s )2

    = 22500 J

2.     Calculate the kinetic energy of moving 2 kg object traveling at a velocity of 5 m/s!

Answer:

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 2 kg x ( 5 m/s )2

    = 25 J

3.     How much kinetic energy does moving 5 kg object have it moves with a velocity of 4 m/s?

Answer:

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 5 kg x ( 4 m/s )2

    = 40 J

4.     What is the kinetic energy of a 10 g shotput thrown with a velocity 30 m/s?

Answer:

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 0.01 kg x ( 30 m/s )2

    = 4.5 J

5.     What is the kinetic energy of a ball with a mass of 3 kg rolling at 10 m/s?

Answer:

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 3 kg x ( 10 m/s )2

    = 150 J

6.     A 60 kg of the horse is traveling at a constant speed of 8 m/s. What is its kinetic energy?

Answer :

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 60 kg x ( 8 m/s )2

    = 1920 J

7.     What is the kinetic energy of a 500g object moving at a velocity of 100 m/s?

Answer :

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 0.5 kg x ( 100 m/s )2

    = 2500 J

8.     What is the kinetic energy of 100 g object moving at the velocity of 6 m/s?

Answer

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 0.1 kg x ( 6 m/s )2

    = 1.8 J

9.     What is the kinetic energy of a 4000 g object moving at a velocity of 4 m/s? Provide your answer in kJ!

Answer

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 4 kg x ( 4 m/s )2

    = 32 J

    = 0.032 kJ

10.  How much kinetic energy does a person of mass 60 kg running at 3 m/s?

Answer

kE= ½ mv2

    = ½ x 60 kg x ( 3 m/s )2

    = 270 J
